Why We Started Herd 77

When people ask us why we started Herd 77, the answer is simple: we wanted to reconnect families with where their food comes from.

For generations, our family has raised cattle with pride, believing that quality beef starts long before it reaches your dinner table. It starts with healthy animals, responsible farming, and a commitment to doing things the right way—even when it's not the easiest way.

Like many family farms, we spent years raising cattle that eventually left our farm to enter the traditional beef supply chain. Once they left, we had little control over where they ended up or how they were sold. We knew the care and hard work that went into raising them, but the families enjoying that beef never got to know the story behind it.

We wanted to change that.

Why "Herd 77"?

The name Herd 77 is a tribute to where our story began.

Years ago, our family's cattle operation started with just 77 mother cows. Those original 77 cows laid the foundation for what our farm has become today. While our herd has grown over the years, we've never forgotten those humble beginnings or the values they represent.

Hard work. Integrity. Stewardship. Family. Those values continue to guide everything we do.

Our Commitment to Quality

We believe exceptional beef doesn't happen by accident.

Our cattle spend the majority of their lives on pasture before being carefully grain-finished to create the flavor and marbling families love. Every animal is raised with attention to nutrition and care because healthy cattle produce better beef.

After harvest, our beef is dry aged for 21 days to enhance tenderness and flavor before being flash frozen and vacuum sealed to lock in freshness. Every step is intentional because we know the meals you prepare matter.

For decades, America's beef industry has become increasingly controlled by a handful of large meat processors.
